Every morning, I eat breakfast next door to the Brooklyn Public House. I love walking by and seeing the early morning play of light and all the shadows and colors generated by it at this particular time of day. Note the details at the edges (my daughter’s favorite thing about this piece) - the bodega window and the diner on either side.

I was born and raised in NYC, but lived in Ft. Greene for over 40 years. Cellars was a neighborhood bar that no longer exists. I always loved the late winter light casting shadows on the building, and finally decided to sit down and paint it in 2013 shortly before the bar was closed.

Loved this dirty, old jar with it’s faded labels. Great light and cast shadow.

A car parked across the street from Citibank was reflected in it’s side window, with blinds and a planter. The car looked like it was parked in the pot. A beautiful visual confusion that I noticed and painted.

A beautiful, but decrepit, colorful old wall of a club on Myrtle Avenue. Incredible display of light and shadow at sunset, over the metal gates.

A somewhat ordinary looking gate to a courtyard that caught my eye one day, because of an early winter evening golden light, making it look like a gem.

Looking up towards Clinton Avenue from Tillie’s, with the sun starting to set and the cars coming out of the dark shadows like little jewels. Really colorful!

I couldn’t help but notice that the colors and textures of the old lock and the decrepit, geometric, peeling wall, make this into a little treasure.
