Richard Lebenson, a Fine Artist/Illustrator, born and raised in Queens, NY, has been a Brooklyn resident for over 50 years, originally in Clinton Hill/Fort Greene, and currently in the Midwood section. A painter and printmaker (etchings), his work has been exhibited in numerous shows and galleries around the U,S. and Europe. He has exhibited at many local Brooklyn venues, as well as upstate NY, including galleries, colleges and art centers, in many one-man shows and group exhibitions. He was also a member of SONYA, a local Clinton Hill arts group, participating in their Annual Studio Stroll for 11 years, until 2016.

A professional illustrator for more than 35 years, Mr. Lebenson has illustrated over 30 books and covers for many major publishers, including such as “Jane Eyre” and “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” for Reader’s Digest and “Waiting for Mama”, for Coward McCann & Geohegan. A piece from “Jane Eyre” was selected for the 1985 NY Society of Illustrators Annual Juried Exhibition, and published in their Illustrators Annual the same year. He has been a member of the Society of Illustrators since 1977.

Mr. Lebenson has been a guest speaker at seminars and workshops for art students and professionals at colleges and artist’s organizations, including a number of appearances at the renowned Illustrators Workshops. He was also an Art Buyer for Facopa Advertising, an Iranian Advertising Agency, in 1977, dealing with many of the leading artists/illustrators and artists representatives during that time.

Last, but not least, Mr. Lebenson was the publisher of RSVP: The directory of Illustration & Design, one of the leading national illustration directories in the U.S., for over 30 years. RSVP’s 30th, and last edition, was published in 2005.
